Homicide Investigation: 3 People Shot

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Martavius Williams, (19), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At around 7:40 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a Shot Spotter alert in the 8200 Block of 1st Avenue North.

While en route, officers observed two vehicles that collided with one another in the 8300 Block of 1st Avenue North.

Officers then located the shooting scene in the 8200 Block of 1st Avenue North.

While on the shooting scene, officers observed two wrecked vehicles on the roadway near East Lake Park’s 1st Avenue North entrance.

Officers observed a third vehicle that traveled through Eastlake Park’s fence line and was stopped inside Eastlake Park.

Upon further investigation of THIS vehicle, officers located an adult female and an adult male near the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers observed the victim unresponsive inside the vehicle; he had also been shot.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased. BFR personnel transported the surviving victims to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers did not locate the occupants of the other two vehicles that were on the shooting scene.

The preliminary investigation suggests we believe at least one person from each of the three vehicles found in the 8200 Block of 1st Avenue North may have been involved in a shootout with each other.

The drivers of the two vehicles involved in the accident in the 8300 Block of 1st Avenue appear to have no involvement in the shootout. In fact, we believe their accident may have been caused by one of the drivers fleeing the shots fired.

There is no one in custody.
