Arrest Made in the Jarvis Conley Jr. Homicide
Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an
arrest in connection to the murder of Jarvis Conley Jr. Jarvis Conley Jr. was shot and
killed on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, in the 900 Block of 25th Street Southwest.

The suspect has been identified as:
Courtney Darnell Dennis, (30), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Birmingham Police Homicide Detectives presented information on the case to the
Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information,
detectives obtained warrants for Murder, Attempted Murder and Discharging
Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle.

On Monday, June 26, 2023, the suspect, Courtney Darnell Dennis, arrived at the
Birmingham Police Headquarters and turned himself in to North Precinct Officers.

Courtney Darnell Dennis was booked into the Jefferson County Jail under a $80,000
Bond and a No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

 (Media Release 127)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:

Jarvis Conley Jr., (24), B/M, of Bessemer, Alabama.

 

At approximately 8:50 PM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Shot Spotter Alert call in the 900 Block of 25th Street Southwest.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed Jarvis Conley Jr. lying next to a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers observed an adult female in the area suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and then pronounced Jarvis Conley Jr. deceased.

BFR transported the adult female victim to a local area hospital; she suffered serious injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests the gunshot victims went to the area and then were involved in a verbal argument with a party they knew. Shots were fired.

There was a heavy police presence on the scene; officers believed the suspect was still in the area. Officers were able to talk a person of interest into coming outside of a For Immediate Release residence. The person of interest was taken into custody free of incident. The person of interest was transported to BPD Headquarters where he will be interviewed by Homicide detectives.

Homicide detectives will present case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office who will then decide whether criminal charges should be filed.
