Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, December 18, 2020.

The victim has been identified as Tyrius Williams, (24), of Pelham, Alabama.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to 200 4th Court West on report of multiple rounds detected on the Shot Spotter alert system. Officers arrived on the scene and located the victim lying unresponsive in an alleyway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

This is Birmingham’s 102nd homicide investigation of 2020 with 15 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
