The Birmingham Police Department Invites You to the Presentation for Former BPD Officer Randall Versie Smith
What: The Birmingham Police Departments invites you to the presentation to the family of former BPD Officer Randall Versie Smith by Attorney General Steve Marshall. On March 22, 1995, Smith along with other officers responded to a domestic dispute in Ensley. While responding to the call for service, Officer Smith heroically rescued a toddler during the incident involving an armed person. On this call, Smith was accidentally wounded by the gunfire of a fellow officer. Due to the injuries sustained, Officer Smith was unable to return to duty. Smith medically retired from the Birmingham Police Department on February 2, 1996. Officer Smith passed away on Monday, December 29, 2020.
