Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
The victim has been identified as:
Fredrick Sykes Sr., (44), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 2:10 AM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 3600 Block of Hemlock on report of a person shot.
Officers arrived on the scene when they entered a residence and observed the victim lying unresponsive inside.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests an unknown suspect(s) forcibly entered the residence and shot the victim while inside the residence.
There is no one in custody.
