Media Release 136 – Arrest Made in the Eugene Holiday Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Eugene Holiday. Eugene Holiday was shot and killed in the 4700 Block of Avenue T on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

The suspect has been identified as:

Jermaine Holiday, (41), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Birmingham Police Homicide Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder.

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, the suspect was taken into custody by Walker County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect is currently in the Jefferson County Jail where he will be held on a NO Bond.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:

Eugene Holiday, (71), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Shortly after 1 PM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to Shots Fired calls in the 4700 Block of Avenue T. The call was updated to a Person Shot call.

Officers arrived on the scene and then entered a residence when they observed the victim lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and then pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was shot by a family member during a domestic incident.

The suspect is not in custody.
