Arrest Made in the Joshua Hayes Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Joshua Hayes. He was shot and killed on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in the 900 Block of Navarro Lane.

The suspect has been identified as:

Kayla White, (31), W/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, Helena PD notified our detectives their officers stopped Kayla White on a traffic stop and arrested her on her Murder warrant.

Kayla White is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail and is being held with No Bond.

 Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Joshua Hayes, (27), W/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 10:57 a.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call at a residence in the 900 Block of Navarro Lane. The address is near the City of Irondale.

Officers arrived on the scene when they were met by Irondale PD officers. Our officers learned there was a domestic disturbance at the residence between the victim and an adult female. The two are believed to be boyfriend and girlfriend.

During the domestic disturbance, the victim was shot. Officers took the victim’s girlfriend into custody as a suspect in this investigation.

She was transported to BPD Headquarters; BPD Homicide detectives interviewed her. After the interview, officers transported her to the Birmingham City Jail where she is currently being held under a 48-Hour Felony Extension for Murder.
