Media Release 155- Homicide Investigation-3rd Avenue South

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

The victim will be identified after the next of kin is notified.

At around 8:05 a.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call in the 7800 Block of 3rd Avenue South.

Officers arrived on the scene when they observed an adult male lying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and transported the victim to UAB Hospital where UAB Hospital staff pronounced him deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim exchanged shots with an adult male at the residence. The adult male has been cooperative with our investigators.

Detectives are working to determine what led to the gunfire and who shot first.
