Media Release 178- Homicide Investigation-Arkadelphia Road (2022)

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, September 2, 2022, in the 1000 Block of Arkadelphia Road. The victim later succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Children’s Hospital.

The victim has been identified as:

Madison Davis, (4), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.

On Friday, September 2, 2022, at approximately 5:50 PM, North and West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 1000 Block of Arkadelphia Road on report of a traffic accident.

Officers arrived on the scene when they observed a White Infiniti G35 that collided with a Grey Chevrolet Silverado. Upon further investigation, officers observed the driver of the White Infiniti G35, Demarkus Moss Sr., slumped over suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers observed Demarkus’ two small children injured from the accident. One of the children was Madison Davis and the other was a male infant. The occupants of the second vehicle were injured.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. BFR transported all other injured parties to various hospitals.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victims were traveling in the 800 Block of Arkadelphia Road in their White Infiniti G35  when a suspect in a separate vehicle began firing shots into their vehicle. Demarkus Moss Sr. was targeted in this shooting and was the only person who suffered a gunshot wound during this incident.

Currently, there is no one in custody.

Madison Davis suffered a traumatic brain injury from the car accident.  Madison later succumbed to her injuries at Children’s Hospital.  The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy on Madison Davis. The Medical Examiner’s Office recently informed our Homicide Unit the Manner of Death has been ruled a Homicide.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 181-2022)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, September 2, 2022.

The victim has been identified as:

Demarkus Etwan Moss Sr., (22), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 5:50 PM, North and West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 1000 Block of Arkadelphia Road on report of a traffic accident.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed two vehicles that had collided with one another. Upon further investigation, officers observed the driver of one of the vehicles slumped over suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers observed two small children injured from the accident. One of the children was a female toddler (unresponsive) and the other was a male infant. The occupants of the second vehicle were injured.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. BFR transported all other injured parties to various hospitals. The toddler is the only victim believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was traveling in the 800 Block of Arkadelphia Road when a suspect in a separate vehicle began firing shots into his vehicle.

Currently, there is no one in custody.
