Arrest Made in the Shooting Investigation of 12-Year-Old Boy

The Birmingham Police Department has obtained arrest warrants on a suspect in the shooting investigation of a 12-year-old boy. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in the 1600 Block of 49th Street Ensley.

The suspect has been identified as:

Dennis Buckner Jr., (23), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was inside a residence when his father got into a verbal argument with the suspect. Both parties knew one another.

Both males exchanged shots. The suspect fired rounds towards the residence and we believe one of those bullets struck the victim.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, BPD detectives obtained the following arrest warrants on Dennis Buckner Jr.:

  1. Attempted Murder
  2. Assault 1st Degree
  3. Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, Dennis Buckner Jr. was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail where he is being held with a $120,000 Bond.

12-Year-Old Boy Shot in West Birmingham

 The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 12-year-old boy injured by gunfire. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 4, 2024.

At around 6:25 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 4900 Block of Avenue Q on report of a Person Shot.

Officers arrived in the area when they located a 12-year-old boy wounded by gunfire at a residence in the 1600 Block of 49th Street Ensley.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported the victim to Children’s Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

The preliminary investigation has revealed the victim was inside a residence when his father got into a verbal argument with another male the father knew.

Both males exchanged shots with one another. The second male fired rounds towards the residence and we believe one of those bullets struck the victim.

The victim’s father remained on the scene. The second male fled the scene.
