BPD Officers and Detectives Discover Wanted Walker County Sexual Assault Suspect

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, South Precinct officers arrested an adult male suspected of burglarizing the United Church Center at 2817 6th Avenue South. The burglary occurred on Monday, August 5, 2024.

The suspect has been identified as:

Hollis Smith, (48), W/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Patrol officers transported Smith to BPD Headquarters where BPD Crimes Against Property detectives interviewed him.

Detectives uncovered Smith had lied about his identity. Detectives discovered Smith’s true identity and checked his name for warrants. The check revealed he was wanted out of Walker County for (4) Sodomy 1st Degree warrants.

Officers transported Smith to the Birmingham City Jail where he was booked in; he faces charges of Burglary 3rd Degree and Obstructing Justice Using a False Identity.

Hollis Smith will be transported to the Jefferson County Jail and later to the Walker County Jail for his prior sexual assault charges.
