Arrest Made in the Brandon Lee Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained warrants for an arrest in connection to the murder of Brandon Lee. He was shot and killed on Saturday, August 10, 2024, in the 3000 Block of 30th Avenue North.

The suspect has been identified as:

Roddregus Williams-Johnson, (32), B/M, of Fairfield, Alabama.

Brandon Lee and Roddreggus Williams-Johnson were involved in an argument at Lee’s apartment. Lee and Williams-Johnson knew one another.

The suspect was outside the apartment and fired shots into the apartment striking Brandon Lee and an adult female who were inside the apartment. One of the victims returned fire and struck the suspect.

At around 1:40 a.m., Roddregus Williams-Johnson arrived at UAB Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound from the incident; North Precinct officers detained him.

BPD Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Detectives obtained warrants for Capital Murder (Victim Inside Dwelling) and Attempted Murder on Williams-Johnson.

Roddregus Williams-Johnson is in the Jefferson County Jail with No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 184)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Brandon Lee, (35), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Just before Midnight, North Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of Two People Shot in the Collegeville Housing Community located in the 3000 Block of 30th Avenue North.

Officers arrived on the scene when they entered an apartment and then located the victim along with an adult female both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.

BFR personnel transported the adult female to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and an adult male suspect were involved in an argument at the victim’s apartment. We believe both victims knew the suspect.

The suspect was outside the apartment and fired shots into the apartment striking both victims.

One of the victims may have returned fire and struck the suspect.

At around 1:40 a.m., the potential suspect arrived at UAB Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound; North Precinct officers detained him.

The suspect will remain in police custody while hospitalized and will face pending charges potentially for Capital Murder and Attempted Murder.
