Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, December 4, 2020.
The victim has been identified as Eloy Sierra, (52), H/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to 521 5th Street Thomas on report of a person shot in a nearby alleyway. They arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive in the alleyway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim and an unknown suspect were involved in a verbal argument that led to the suspect shooting the victim.

This is Birmingham’s 98th homicide investigation of 2020 with 13 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
