Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 2, 2021.
The victim will be identified pending notification to the next of kin.
Shortly before 8:00 am, North Precinct officers responded to the 700 block of 20th Street North (Linn Park) on report of a person down. They arrived on the scene and learned Birmingham Public Works personnel were cleaning the park when they observed the victim lying unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced the victim deceased.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has deemed this a homicide investigation. There are no suspect(s) in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 2nd homicide of 2021.
The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
