Homicide Investigation Update
Arrest Made

The Birmingham Police Department reports an arrest has been made in the murder of Ladarius Bloxom. Bloxom was murdered on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

The suspect has been identied as:
Ladarius Hayes, (30), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Detectives obtained a Capitol Murder warrant with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for the arrest of Ladarius Hayes. Hayes was taken into custody by the Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team. Hayes will remain in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with NO BOND.

Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred on Sunday, February 7, 2021.
The victim has been identified as: Ladarius Bloxom, (30), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in a verbal argument with an individual prior to being shot. Currently, there is no one in custody. The exact motive in this homicide is unclear at this time.

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

The victim will be identified upon notification of next of kin.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the 2900 Block of Gallant Drive on report of a person shot inside of an apartment complex. Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive in a grassy area suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in a verbal argument with an individual prior to being shot. Currently, there is no one in custody. The exact motive in this homicide is unclear at this time.
