Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday , August 25, 2021 in the 6200 block of 2nd Avenue South.
The victim has been identified as Earnest Porter Smith, (35), b/m of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 6:36 p.m., officers from East Precinct responded to a call of a person down at the location. Officers arrived on scene and observed the Earnest Smith lying unresponsive on the side walk suffering from several lacerations and puncture wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation indicate the victim was involved in an altercation with the suspect before being stabbed multiple times. A person of interest has been taken into custody for further questioning in connection to this homicide.
