Arrest Made in Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of David Desmond. The investigation began on Sunday, December 5, 2021, in the 400 block of Fulton Avenue Southwest.

The suspect has been identified as:

Daminyae Montreze Harris, (24), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was shot in the roadway and a suspect was seen fleeing the area into a nearby residence. Officers surrounded a residence in the 400 block of Fulton Street Southwest where they were able to take the suspect into custody free of any incident.

Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder ($150,000 Bond).

Daminyae Montreze Harris is currently in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, December 5, 2021.

The victim has been identified as:

David Desmond, (17), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 10:20 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Fulton Avenue Southwest on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed a male victim lying unresponsive in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the male deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was shot in the roadway and a suspect was seen fleeing the area into a nearby residence. Officers surrounded a residence in the 400 block of Fulton Street Southwest where they were able to take two persons of interest into custody free of any incident.

Both individuals will be questioned by detectives from the Birmingham Police Department’s Homicide Division. We will provide updates as they become available.
