Double Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a double homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
The victims have been identified as:
Lorenzo Woods, (23), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama
Courtney Woods, (22), b/m of Birmingham, Alabama
Just before 3:00 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to the 3833 Eastlake Blvd on a call of a initially one person shot. Officers arrived and located one of the victims, Lorenzo Woods laying on the ground outside of the Shell Gas Station. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. While canvassing the area, officers found a second victim, Courtney Woods laying unresponsive wounded by gunfire in a grassy area just off of the service road of the shell gas station. He was pronounced deceased on scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
The preliminary investigation suggests multiple suspects opened fire on the vehicle occupied by the victims. Both victims exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot before collapsing. It appears the victims were targeted. The suspects then fled the scene. The suspects involved are currently at large. Updates will be provided as this case develops.
