Juvenile Death Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a death investigation involving a juvenile. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

The victim has been identified as:

Jeremiah Pruitt, 13, B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Shortly, after 9 p.m., West Precinct officers responded to the 1500 block of 51st Street Ensley on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive in the front yard of a residence.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to Children’s Hospital; later the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim suffered a gunshot wound injury while at a private residence. At this time, the investigation surrounding this incident has led to this case being deemed accidental.  There are no additional details available from BPD.
