BPD releases Stop the Violence PSA
Gun violence has taken a deadly toll on community members in Birmingham this year.
As of Nov. 23, 2020, criminal homicides involving gunfire stand at 87 for the year and the Birmingham Police Department has taken more than 2,000 firearms off the streets.
On Tuesday, BPD released a public service announcement titled Stop the Violence inviting community members to join BPD in making a change.
The PSA features eight officers of various ranks speaking to the toll gun violence has taken on the community including the loss of children, parents, brothers and sisters and the fact that other victims have been seriously injured and their lives changed forever. The PSA then transitions to a plea to join BPD in taking communities back to help create a Birmingham where people can live without the fear of gunfire, where words are used to settle disputes rather than guns and those who hurt the community are reported.
