VIDEO: BPD requests public’s assistance identifying robbery suspect

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a robbery investigation. Investigators request assistance from the public in identifying the suspect in the attached robbery video and photos.

On January 15, 2020, at 5:40 p.m. an off-duty uniformed officer was working an extra security detail at the KFC restaurant located at 1800 Ensley Avenue. While inside the location the officer observed a suspect attempt to rob the business as he entered the location with a handgun and present it at the employees.

The officer confronted the suspect resulting in the officer discharging his weapon. The suspect managed to escape the location by exiting through the drive-through window. Additional officers were called to the area to search for the suspect, but the suspect remains at large.

Based on evidence located in the area, the suspect was believed to be injured during the robbery. There were no injuries to the officer or employees.
