Police Complaint Form
The Birmingham Police Department is committed to providing a safe and sustainable community that fosters relationships, trust, and reduced crime provided by the highest level of police services. This on-line Citizen Complaint Form provides a way for citizens to make us aware of any allegation of misconduct by a Birmingham Police officer. If you have a complaint of misconduct by a BPD officer, please complete the form below and click on ‘Submit.’ Please be as accurate and detailed as you can. The most appropriate person to file a complaint is the person who experienced or witnessed the alleged police misconduct. Anonymous complaints are accepted. However, it is best for our investigators to be able to contact any involved citizen to ensure a complete investigation is conducted. Parents or guardians may file a complaint on behalf of their minor children. The Internal Affairs Division will use the information provided to conduct an initial inquiry into your complaint. This may take several days depending on the nature of the allegation. You will be notified by mail verifying that we have received your complaint and again when the investigation is complete. Please note that if your complaint is with an officer who works for an agency other than BPD, you will need to contact that agency to file your complaint. Additionally, issues related to a person’s guilt or innocence on criminal charges or traffic violations MUST be addressed in court.
