Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

The victim has been identified as Jason Ford, (21), b/m, of Bessemer, Alabama.

Just after 6:00 p.m., the Birmingham Police Department’s 911 Communications Division received a call of a person shot in the alley way of the 2100 block of 32nd Avenue North. Officers from North Precinct responded to the location and found Justin Ford unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ford was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue and the Jefferson County Coroner.

The preliminary investigation suggest two black males fled the location on foot after Ford was shot. Detectives have not established a motive. There are no suspects in custody.

This is homicide 104 of 2020 with 13 justifiable death investigations and 1 noncriminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department
adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
