Arrest Made in the Jeffry Padilla Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Jeffry Padilla. He was shot and killed on Friday, April 12, 2024, in the 500 Block of 81st Street North.

The suspect has been identified as:

Ledarrius Jones, (32), B/M, of Tarrant, Alabama.

Homicide detectives identified Jones as a suspect in this investigation. On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, The Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team arrested Jones in Birmingham for an outstanding Robbery 1st Degree warrant.

On Thursday, May 16, Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder (No Bond) on Jones.

NOTE: Additionally, Homicide detectives obtained a Hindering Prosecution arrest warrant on the following suspect:

Arkeria Rogers, (27), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Ledarrius Jones is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.

Arkeria Rogers was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

Homicide Investigation

 (Media Release 75)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Jeffry Padilla, (26), H/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 12:00 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation of one round fired in the 500 Block of 81st Street South. While enroute, the call was updated to a Person Shot.

When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the Hispanic male victim lying face down in the front yard of a residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and unknown individuals were involved in a verbal altercation that resulted in the victim being wounded by gunfire. The victim was a guest at the residence.

Further details are limited in this investigation.

There is no one in custody.
