Shooting Investigation Involving Small Children Underway
The Birmingham Police Department reports a shooting investigation is underway in the 2000 Block of Avenue V after two small children were wounded by gunfire.
On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at approximately 12:30 AM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 2000 Block of Avenue V on report of two children wounded by gunfire.
A 4-year-old male and a 1-year-old female.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported both children to Children’s Hospital.
The 4-year-old’s injuries are non-life-threatening. The 1-year-old’s injuries are considered life-threatening. Both are believed to be family members (unknown exact relationship).
Currently, our investigators believe the shooting is accidental and a result of one of the children “playing” with a firearm. The home was occupied by adults at the time of the shooting.
