Media Release 107-Homicide Investigation 1100 block of Center Street North

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, in the 1100 block of Center Street North.

The victim has been identified as Maurice Montrell Lewis, (29), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Just before 1:00 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person down in the front yard of a residence located at 1116 Center Street North. Upon arrival officer discovered Lewis suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Lewis was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

The preliminary investigation suggests the incident occurred in an adjacent alley and the victim collapsed in the front yard after being shot. No arrest has been made. Updates will be provided as this case develops.
