Public’s Assistance With the David Westbrook Jr. Homicide Investigation
Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a homicide that occurred on Monday, May 23, 2022, that claimed the life of David Westbrook Jr.
At approximately 10:50 PM, East Precinct officers were dispatched to 135 54th Street North on report of a ShotSpotter alert. Officers arrived on the scene and observed an SUV that had collided with a utility pole. Upon further investigation, officers observed David Westbrook Jr. suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed that David Westbrook Jr. had just walked his dog at a nearby soccer field and returned to his vehicle.
An unknown suspect approached him on foot and fired shots at him while he was attempting to leave.
The suspect fled on foot.

Homicide Investigation
(Media Release 104-2022)
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, May 23, 2022.
The victim has been identified as:
David Westbrook Jr., (50), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 10:50 PM, East Precinct officers were dispatched to 135 54th Street North on report of a ShotSpotter alert. Officers arrived on the scene and observed an SUV that had collided with a utility pole. Upon further investigation, officers observed the driver suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Currently, there is no one in custody. Details are limited in this investigation.
