Media Release 108- Homicide Investigation- 17th Avenue North

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, May 20, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Demarcus Moore, (37), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At around 5 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a Trespassing call at a residence in the 3400 Block of 17th Avenue North.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive in the front yard of a residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests a domestic disturbance took place between the victim and his brother. During the disturbance, the victim’s brother shot him.

The suspect remained on the scene. North Precinct officers took him into custody.

He was transported to BPD Headquarters where BPD Homicide detectives interviewed him.

The suspect was then transported to the Birmingham City Jail where he was placed on a 48-Hour Felony Extension for Murder.
