10-Year-Old Child Shot in East Birmingham
The Birmingham Police Department has launched an assault investigation after a 10-year-old child was shot in East Birmingham. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
At around 6:10 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a Juvenile Shot call at Eastlake Park (8101 4th Avenue North).
Officers arrived at the park when they observed a 10-year-old boy suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and transported the victim to Children’s Hospital. He has suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was walking in Eastlake Park with his mother when he felt a sudden pain in his arm; his mother realized her son had been shot. The two ran towards a nearby football field where parents at the football field rendered aid to the victim.
Officers and investigators are working to determine where the shot(s) was fired from that struck the child. There is no one in custody.
