Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, June 7, 2020.

The victim’s has been identified as Reginald Martin, (24), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., Officers from the South Precinct responded to 800 47th Street North on a call of a person shot. Upon arrival officers discovered the victim lying in the front doorway suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

The preliminary investigation suggest the victim and the suspect was engaged in a verbal altercation prior to the suspect shooting the victim. There is one suspect in custody however the investigation is ongoing. Additional information will be released as it comes available.

This is Birmingham’s 44th homicide investigation of 2020 with 7 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
