Media Release 121- Homicide Investigation- 13th Avenue North

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Valdez Stephenson, (37), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.  

At approximately 10:10 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a Shots Fired call in the 3200 Block of 13th Avenue North.

Officers arrived on the scene and then observed the victim lying unresponsive in a grassy area suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was targeted.

There is no one in custody.
