Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday May 15, 2021 in the 2500 block of 29th Place West.

The victim has been identified as Jaishuntae Browning (20), b/m of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 8:51 p.m. officers from the West Precinct responded to a ShotSpotter call at the location. The 911 Communications Division also received a call of a person shot. Officers arrived at the location and discovered the victim, Jaishuntae Browning sitting in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Princeton Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary Investigation indicates an altercation occurred prior to Browning being
shot. There are no suspect(s) in custody. Updates will be provided as this case develops.

This is Birmingham’s 39th homicide investigation of 2021 with 3 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
