Jefferson County Family Court Shooting into an Occupied Building Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports officers are investigating an incident where the Jefferson County Family Court’s building was shot into. The incident occurred on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
At around 9:10 a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to Jefferson County Family Court on report of Shots Fired into the Building.
Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the front door damaged by gunfire and several windows damaged by gunfire. Officers observed an adult female inside the building who was wounded by shattered glass from the gunfire. She suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
The preliminary investigation suggests an unknown suspect(s) fired shots at someone, possibly from the parking lot.
We believe this is an isolated incident not connected to any courthouse official or courthouse function.
There is no one in custody.
