Arrest Made in the Tadarrien Griffin Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Tadarrien Griffin. Tadarrien Griffin was shot and killed on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, in the 100 Block of 71st Street North.

The suspect has been identified as:

17-year-old male juvenile

He was taken into custody on the scene.

Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Reckless Manslaughter.

The juvenile suspect is currently in the Jefferson County Jail under a $30,000 Bond.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 128)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:

Tadarrien Griffin, (22), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 5:30 PM, East Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call in the 100 Block of 71st Street North.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive next to a vehicle.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests a person of interest in this shooting remained on the scene. Patrol officers detained the person of interest; he has been transported to BPD Headquarters for questioning.

The person of interest has been transported to the Birmingham City Jail and placed under a 48-Hour Felony Extension for Murder.

Homicide detectives will present case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office who will decide if criminal charges should be filed.

The victim and person of interest knew each another.
