Third Suspect Arrested in the 2022 Shooting Investigation of 15-Year-Old Christian Savage

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained arrest warrants for a third suspect in connection to the 2022 shooting investigation of 15-year-old Christian Savage.

Christian Savage was shot and critically injured on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, while playing video games inside his home in the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes Housing Community. Christian was an innocent and unintended target.

The suspect has been identified as:

Derrick Greene, (20), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

On Monday, December 18, 2023, Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Attempted Murder & Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling.

On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team arrested Derrick Greene at a residence in East Birmingham.

Derrick Greene is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail and held under a $75,000 Bond.

Two Arrested in Shooting of 15-Year-Old Christian Savage; BPD Seeks Identity of Additional Suspect

(Media Release 130-2022)

The Birmingham Police Department reports arrest has been made in the shooting of a 15-year-wounded in the Morell Todd Housing Community. The incident occurred on June 29, 2022. Detectives are seeking the help of the public to identify an additional suspect involved in this incident.

The suspects have been identified as: 

 

Omar Smith, (19), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama. Smith has been charged with two counts of Discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and Attempted Murder. ($300,000 bond)

 

 

 

 

Martez Jefferson, (19), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama. Jefferson has been Charged with two counts of Discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and Attempted Murder. ($750,000 bond)
