Arrest Made in the Demarco Thomas Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Demarco Thomas. He was shot and killed on Friday, June 7, 2024, in the 400 Block of 9th Street West.

During the investigation, BPD Homicide detectives identified a suspect.

The suspect has been identified as:

O’Nandas Carmece Beard, (26), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.  

On, Tuesday, June 18, 2024, BPD’s Crime Reduction Team arrested Beard at a residence in West Birmingham. Detectives also recovered a “Glock Switch” at the residence.

Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder.

O’Nandas Carmece Beard is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 132)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, June 7, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Demarco Cortez Thomas aka “Geremy Demarco Sistrunk,” (35), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At around 3:30 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of Shots Fired in the 400 Block of 9th Street West.

Officers were updated that a black SUV had crashed near the intersection.

Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the wrecked vehicle. Upon further investigation, officers observed the victim inside suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.

Details are limited in this investigation. There is no one in custody.
