Media Release 143- Homicide Investigation-18th Street North

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Maurice McGhee Davis, (40), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At around 11:20 a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call in the 1500 Block of 18th Street North.

Officers arrived on the scene when they were met by two Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies. The deputies alerted our officers to the victim. Officers observed the victim lying unresponsive on the sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests two JCSO deputies were in the area possibly serving an eviction when a community member flagged them down about the victim.

Additional details are limited.

There is no one in custody.
