Arrest Made in the Rodrequiz Amison Jr. Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Rodrequiz Amison Jr. Mr. Amison was shot and killed on Saturday, July 16, 2022, while in the 200 Block of 52nd Street North.

The suspect has been identified as:

Talana Cherry, (44), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder.

Talana Cherry is in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office where she will be held with a $150,000 Bond.


Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

The victim has been identified as:

Rodrequiz Amison Jr., (34), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama. 

At approximately 5:00 PM, East Precinct officers were dispatched to the 200 Block of 52nd Street North upon a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene when they observed an adult male victim lying unresponsive inside of a residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in an argument at the residence involving a firearm. During the argument, the victim was shot. Details at this time, are unclear; however, detectives are speaking with witnesses from the scene.

Officers took an adult female into custody on the scene; she was interviewed at the Administration Building then booked into the Birmingham City Jail pending formal charges.
