Media Release 146- Homicide Investigation- Interstate 59 South
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 23, 2022.
The victim will be identified upon notification to the next of kin.
At approximately 8:00 PM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to Interstate 59 South @ the Bush Boulevard Exit on report of a person shot.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed a male victim lying unresponsive inside of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that while officers were on Interstate 59 South, a person of interest was developed after an adult female showed up at West Precinct voluntarily.
Homicide detectives will interview the person of interest at the Birmingham Police Headquarters.
At this time, it is unknown where the original location of the shooting took place.
