Arrest Made in Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Earnest Moody Jr.

The suspect has been identified as:
Deandre Brantley, (24), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Capital Murder (No Bond)

Mr. Brantley will be transferred from the Birmingham City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail where he will remain in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

The victim has been identified as:
Earnest Moody Jr., (33), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

The preliminary investigation suggests a suspect fired shots at the victim from a vehicle before fleeing the scene. A suspect then called police and turned himself in. That individual was transported to the Birmingham Police Administration Building where detectives questioned him.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

The victim will be identified upon notification to the next of kin.

At approximately1:30 a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to1916 14th Avenue North on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene, which was an apartment complex, where they observed a male victim lying on the steps of an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported the victim to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests a suspect fired shots at the victim from a vehicle before fleeing the scene. A suspect then called police and turned himself in. That individual was transported to the Birmingham Police Administration Building where detectives questioned him. Updates will be provided pending a case evaluation completed by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
