Arrest Made in the Justin Brown Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained warrants for two arrests in connection to the murder of Justin Brown. Mr. Brown was shot and killed on Sunday, June 19, 2022, in the 5900 Block of Warner Street.

The suspects have been identified as:

  1. Ranisha Wright, (20), B/F, of Florala, Alabama.
  2. Joshua Holmes, (23), B/M, of Fairfield, Alabama.

Arrest Information: Ranisha Wright was taken into custody on Saturday, July 9, 2022. She was arrested by the United States Marshal’s Service in Loxley, Alabama

Joshua Holmes was taken into custody on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. He was arrested by West Precinct officers at an address in West Birmingham.

Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained warrants for the following charges:

Ranisha Wright- 1. Murder  2. Kidnapping- interference with custody

Joshua Holmes- 1. Murder  2. Kidnapping- interference with custody

Both suspects are in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail under a $215,000 Bond.

 

 

 

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, June 19, 2022.

The victim has been identified as:

Justin Jai Brown, (22), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.  

At approximately 1:55 PM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 5900 Block of Warner Street on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the victim lying unresponsive on the sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. UAB Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim may have been involved in an argument that led to shots being fired. This is believed to be an isolated incident.

Currently, there is no one in custody.
