Public’s Assistance with the Reed Rigsby Homicide Investigation

 Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a homicide that occurred on Friday, July 22, 2022, that claimed the life of Reed Rigsby.

At approximately 2:40 PM, South Precinct officers were dispatched to the 4500 Block of 6th Avenue South on report of a person down inside a residence.

Officers arrived on the scene and entered the residence when they observed an adult male victim lying unresponsive.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

An autopsy revealed Reed had been shot.

NOTE: The family has mentioned Reed’s distinct Egyptian cartouche necklace, which spells his father’s name “Randall” in hieroglyphs was possibly stolen that day.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 2022-145)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, July 22, 2022.

The victim has been identified as:

Reed Anderson Rigsby, (23), WM, of Heflin, Alabama.

At approximately 2:40 PM, South Precinct officers were dispatched to the 4500 Block of 6th Avenue South on report of a person down inside of a residence.

Officers arrived on the scene and entered a residence when they observed an adult male victim lying unresponsive.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

This case was originally investigated as an unclassified death. The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the victim; their preliminary investigation has led to this case being reclassified as a homicide.
