Justifiable Death Ruling

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have received a ruling in connection to the homicide investigation of Adrian Christian. The incident occurred on Friday, May 5, 2023.

In May, investigators identified a suspect (adult male) in this investigation. Investigators took the suspect into custody. He was interviewed and then booked in the Birmingham City Jail under a 48-Hour Felony Extension.

Investigators presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review. On Friday, July 21, 2023, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office ruled the actions justifiable. This investigation is reclassified as a Justified Death Investigation # 7.

 The Birmingham Police Department has 71 murders thus far in 2023.The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 94)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, May 5, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:

Adrian Dewayne Christian, (44), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At around 11:35 PM, North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 1400 Block of 5th Street West on report of a Person With a Gun. The call was updated to a Person Shot Call.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim unresponsive in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed there was a person outside of the victim’s residence with a gun.

The victim exited his residence and was subsequently shot.

There is no one in custody.
