Arrest Made in the Nicholas Johnson Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Nicholas Johnson. Nicholas Johnson was shot and killed on Thursday, July 13, 2023, in the 5800 Block of Monte Sano Road.

The suspect has been identified as:

Jameria Henley, (31), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Currently, detectives believe the suspect and victim were in the process of committing a burglary together at an apartment when the suspect fired shots which struck the victim.

Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder (Felony Murder Rule).

Jameria Henley is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 153)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, July 13, 2023.

The victim has been identified:

Nicholas Marquis Johnson, (33), B/M, of Bessemer, Alabama.

At approximately 9:20 PM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of an argument in the parking lot of the Vines at Hillside West Apartment Complex, located in the 5800 Block of Monte Sano Road. The call was updated to Shots Fired and then updated to a Person Shot call.

Officers arrived on the scene and then observed the victim unresponsive in a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Responding officers rendered aid to the victim. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and then transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

UAB Hospital Staff pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests there was an argument in the parking lot, shots were fired, and the victim was struck by gunfire.

There is no one in custody.
