Birmingham Police Investigate Two Killed in Traffic Accident
On Sunday, August 14, 2022, at around 1:20 AM, South Precinct officers were dispatched to 230 20th Street South (Publix Midtown) on report of a traffic accident.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed a small sedan that had collided with a tree. Officers observed two unresponsive occupants inside the vehicle.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the front-seat passenger (adult female) deceased. BFR transported the driver (adult male) to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased by UAB Hospital staff.
Birmingham Police Traffic Homicide Investigators responded to the scene.
Currently, we believe speed played a factor in the cause of this accident.
