Mass Shooting: Quadruple Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a quadruple homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

The victims have been identified as:

  1. Lerandus Anderson, (24), B/M, of Center Point, Alabama.
  2. Stevie McGhee, (39), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
  3. Markeisha Gettings, (42), B/F of Birmingham, Alabama.
  4. Angela Weatherspoon, (56), B/F, of Center Point, Alabama.

 Initial Call; Officers Arrival on Scene

At approximately 11:08 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of Multiple People Shot at a nightclub in the 3400 Block of 27th Street North.

Officers arrived on the scene when they observed MULTIPLE gunshot victims.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived and pronounced gunshot victim Stevie McGhee deceased. Stevie was on the sidewalk just outside the nightclub.

BFR personnel pronounced gunshot victims Markeisha Gettings and Angela Weatherspoon deceased. Markeisha and Angela were discovered deceased inside the nightclub.

At least 10 additional gunshot victims arrived at UAB Hospital by either BFR personnel or private vehicle. UAB Hospital Staff pronounced gunshot victim Lerandus Anderson deceased; BFR personnel transported Lerandus to UAB Hospital. The surviving victims’ injuries range from stable to critical condition.

Investigation

The preliminary investigation suggests there was a birthday party being held at the nightclub. We believe an altercation ensued inside the nightclub. After the altercation (unknown time frame) at least one suspect drove by in a vehicle and fired shots from the street into the nightclub. Detectives are working to determine if the shooting stemmed from the altercation.

There is no one in custody.

Federal law enforcement personnel responded to the scene and are assisting BPD in this investigation.
