Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
The victim has been identified as:
Frederick Douglas Berry Jr., (41), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 4:16 a.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to the 7000 Block of 1st Avenue South on report of Shot Spotter Alerts.
Officers arrived on the scene and then observed the victim unresponsive in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and then transported the victim to UAB Hospital. UAB Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was riding his bicycle when an unknown suspect(s) fired shots at him.
There is no one in custody.
