Media Release 169-Homicide Investigation 4400 block of Ishkooda-Wenonah Road Southwest

Homicide Investigation

 The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 20, 2022.

 The victim has been identified as Jamari Smith, (22)  b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

 At approximately 12:39 a.m. officers from the West Precinct responded to multiple calls of shots fired at  4421 Ishkooda-Wenonah Road Southwest. Upon arrival officers discovered Jamari Smith laying in the front yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the  location however the victim succumb to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was having dialogue with an unknown male outside prior to being shot. The suspect(s) fled the scene and is currently at large.

Detectives have not established a motive in this homicide. Updates will be provided as this case develops.
