Media Release 170-Homcide Investigation-Roebuck Plaza Drive

 Homicide Investigation

 The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Richard Allen Judkins, (54), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 4:45 PM, a citizen arrived at East Precinct and stated to a patrol sergeant that he had shot someone at 121 Roebuck Plaza Drive (Murphy USA gas station). Officers immediately responded to the location.

When officers arrived on the scene and entered the business, they observed an adult male victim lying on the floor, unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests a physical altercation took place inside the business between the suspect and the victim. The suspect shot the victim and quickly turned himself into police custody.

This is Birmingham’s 83rd murder investigation of 2024 with 8 justifiable death investigations.

 The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations in the total homicide investigations counts.
