Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 13, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:
Robert Alexander Brown, (22), B/M, of Bessemer, Al.

At approximately 10:07 AM, West Precinct officers were responding to a call of a Person Shot in the 1000 Block of Tin Mill Road.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed an adult male victim unresponsive, inside of a vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests family members had not heard from the victim since yesterday, August 12, 2023, around noontime. The family members became concerned and began searching for the victim. A family member located the victim’s vehicle parked at the incident location in the parking lot. When the family member approached the vehicle, they observed the victim inside, suffering from a gunshot wound and called the police.

There is no one in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 79th murder investigation of 2023 with 7 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations in the total homicide investigations counts.
